Mindfulness & Rock Climbing Workshops
Our Mindfulness & Rock Climbing workshop is designed to help climbers improve their performance through teaching them actionable skills to apply to their climbing. In this workshop we teach climbers how to eliminate stress, distractions, and fear while achieving a higher level of focus and concentration in their climbing performance.
The workshop is 3 hours long and is an experiential workshop; which means we discuss techniques for a short amount of time and maximize our time applying the techniques by climbing the rest of the time.
We spent years researching and compiling mental training strategies from interviews with elite climbers, psychology and physiology studies, and working with athletes and a variety of coaches to bring together a curriculum that is actionable and actually gives the climber a plan of attack to deal with the fear of falling, fear of injury, fear/excitement of succeeding on the route, and the fear of failure.
Outside of the common fears in climbing, the same curriculum helps the climber learn about their body and improve body awareness, increase concentration and awareness around what they are doing.
Mindfulness and Rock Climbing Workshops Are Available for Groups, Climbing Teams, or One on One Private days. Fill out the form below to speak with us about booking a workshop:
What happens in the workshop:
We focus on teaching breathing techniques that help eliminate stress from the body, instill focus, and also teach you several techniques for when to apply different styles of breathing for different styles of movement on your climb.
We teach versatile visualization, how the practice of visualization works in your brain and body, how to use it for red-pointing or competition climbing. We will teach you several versions of visualization strategies to apply to projects, giving you a chance to practice this skill with us.
Self Talk has a large influence on our performance and emotional wellbeing. We teach tactics to observe and delay reacting to your self talk in order to have the best possible outcome when you climb and not reach a state of burn out or stress. We help you identify your own stressors and motivating speech and provide you with a framework to stop falling into traps of negative self talk.
Our final portion of the workshop consists of a few on the wall body awareness exercises. Helping you to learn and get a feel for how you body works, where your strengths and weakness’s are and how to increase your body awareness overtime while learning how to conserve energy through specialized muscle engagement while climbing.
With each sections we discuss the techniques for 25 minutes and then apply the techniques to the climbing walls immediately after for about 30-40 minutes. This gives you ample on the wall training time during the workshop with our coaches present to help guide you and answer any questions along the way.
